Independent Survivor Program
Digg!

The Independent Survivor Program is a charitable initiative focused on providing travel opportunity for young adults. BadAss Travel will reserve one spot on each leg of our trips for young adults that have survived a severe hardship during their lives, whether it be poverty, death in the family, or a major illness. Anyone between 16-25 years old is encouraged to apply. BadAss Travel will cover all expenses, including airfare.

Applicants must email the program director with their name, age, why they may qualify for the program, and what they would want to get out of a trip with BadAss Travel. Trip slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis, and qualifying applicants will be chosen based on demonstrated need, benefit, and maturity.

A Badass Manifesto
Digg!

Last night, over wine, a new friend asked what my ideal career path would be. I thought about it for a second but then realized that I was doing it right now, with this company and the way my life is shaped. I just bought a ticket to Mexico to cruise the Sea of Cortez on a sailboat for the next few weeks and am looking forward to getting a refresher on how I lived as a teenager while on the boat in the Caribbean.

I always remember how hard it was when I lived down there to get friends to visit us on the boat. Their first, and lamest, excuse was always that they did not have a passport. It is such a convenient scapegoat. They choose to remain ignorant of how easy it is to actually get one just so they can keep under the umbrella of their day-to-day drudgery. The ones that did have it were then afraid to cast off, to disrupt their schedules and travel to foreign, exotic sounding places.

I will admit I had some second thoughts before I made payment for the plane tickets. I don't like ducking out of a future commitment, I like to stick to my word. But often we overestimate the repurcussions of this, of canceling a meeting or withdrawing from an event. Sometimes we have to say screw it, let's do it. It's how entrepreneurs grow their businesses, how sailors find foreign ports, and how we find out new things about ourselves. Casting off, making the decisions that lead to personal growth in the face of risk, is the Badass Way.
